An Overview of Silent Camp

Click Here to see the Camp Activities page.

The Rhode Island Silent Camp is a weekend event for the deaf and hard of hearing to come together and share their life experiences. It is an opportunity to make new friends and simply get away for a weekend to enjoy the peaceful outdoor setting of our beautiful state.

Our camp is located in the beautiful woodlands of Charlestown, Rhode Island, on the property of Camp Watchaug that is graciously donated to us for the weekend by the Westerly-Pawcatuck YMCA.

The Campsite
If you talk, you'll get wet!
Silent camp is an entire weekend of silence for all participants, including staff. No one is allowed to talk. All communication must be in the language of the deaf - either in Sign Language or through written messages. If you make a sound, you just might be squirted with water!
Even Staff can't Speak

Accomodations
Silent Camp is quite literally, a camp. There are no cabins, hotel rooms, or room service – just the great outdoors and your tents. Participants must bring thier own tents and may pair up as desired. Our organization, unfortunately, is unable to supply them for you.

Food & Meals
Meals are provided by Silent Camp and are included in the registration cost. Please advise us of any food allergies or dietary concerns at the time of registration.
